The Heights is located in the southeast Calgary community of Albert Park/Radisson Heights. It sits on the former site of the David D. Oughton school at the corner of 11th Avenue SE and 26th Street SE.
Quadrant: Southeast
Ward: Ward 9 (Councillor Harrison Clark)
Community Established: The area was part of the former Town of Forest Lawn and annexed by Calgary in 1961.
Project Size: An 8.77-acre site featuring a mix of one- to five-bedroom owner-occupied townhomes.
The community takes its name from a historic promotional scheme. In 1912, developers Albert Smyth and Mr. McCullough laid railway ties to the area and started a rumour that a streetcar was being built to lure residents. The scheme was discovered, the developers disappeared, and the railway ties were used for firewood. Development proceeded sporadically from then on, with Albert Park developing between 1908 and 1950, and Radisson Heights developing shortly after annexation.
