McKenzie Towne is a master-planned residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta, developed by Carma Developers LP (now Brookfield Residential Properties Inc.). The community features the pedestrian-friendly High Street shopping area with street-front retail, restaurants, cafes, and a Sobeys grocery store. Residents enjoy access to the McKenzie Towne Hall (community centre) with a gymnasium, meeting and banquet facilities, a private outdoor park area, a splash park, an outdoor hockey rink, a skate park (summer only), and numerous ponds with paved pathways throughout. The neighbourhood was designed by the same architect who modelled Seaside, Florida (the filming location of The Truman Show).
McKenzie Towne is divided into four distinct areas: Inverness, Elgin, Prestwick, and High Street, each with complementary architectural styles inspired by traditional North American and European designs.
Architectural Styles: Elgin features six European-inspired styles—English Cottage, Greek Revival, English Tudor, French Eclectic, Italianate, and English Arts & Crafts. Prestwick and Inverness feature four styles—Queen Anne (Victorian), Georgian, Craftsman, and National. High Street is the commercial area, designed by Gibbs Gage Architects, featuring street-oriented retail and traditional storefronts.
