Innisfail is a friendly and historic town in Central Alberta, Canada, located approximately 15 km (9 miles) south of Red Deer and 30 km (19 miles) north of Olds along the Queen Elizabeth II Highway (Highway 2). The name "Innisfail" is derived from the Irish term meaning "Island of Destiny." The community was originally named Poplar Grove when settlers arrived in 1890, but was later renamed Innisfail by a prominent Irish-Canadian family. Innisfail was incorporated as a village in 1900 and as a town in 1903.
