Martindale real estate is very affordable. Not all of the NE is that bad. When most people speak of the NE, they generally aren't thinking of the areas between Center St. and Deerfoot Tr. These areas are officially NE, but not in the scary areas. And the prices are low due to the dreaded "NE" designation in the address. Also, there are a lot of immigrant communities in the NE. If you happen to be a new immigrant, and English isn't your first language, it can be very comforting to have neighbors in the same boat. And these communities tend to be much stronger and closer knit than more affluent neighborhoods.
