Once you move into Mahogany, you really realize all of the benefits that come with it In fact, not only do people stay in Mahogany, and move up to different housing types — and downsize, as the case may be — they also tell their friends and family about it, McLaws says, adding many house hunters head to the community because they know others who live there and have enjoyed the experience. Mahogany is a community in southeast Calgary by Hopewell Residential that offers a wide range of home types, including condos, paired homes, laned single-family homes, front-drive single-family homes, and estate homes. Some of the estate homes are located on the community’s unique residential island. The builder group includes Calbridge Homes, Morrison Homes, Excel Homes, Homes by Avi, Jayman Built, Section23 Developments, and Hopewell Residential — which is the company the Reghenas family built through. Jayman Built also has a separate but connected community within Mahogany called Westman Village, where residential development is entirely multi-family. Along with the step up in square footage, the Reghenas family’s move was also motivated by an interest in getting closer to the community’s star amenity, Mahogany Lake. At 25.5 hectares (63 acres), it’s the largest freshwater lake within Calgary city limits. We are extremely close, says Drew. It is about a two-minute walk to the park at the main beach, which is fantastic. We can easily just walk to the lake, spend some time, and then make our way back home, which is extremely convenient, and another big selling point about the house that we picked. The lake, which is in a distinct three-part design, has two private beaches. We’ll head over to the beach and spend sometimes an hour, sometimes all day, depending on what’s happening. The kids play on the beach, we’ve got the fire pit there, we’ve got the splash park with the playground. We spend a lot of time there with the kids. You don’t need to go to a fancy water park or make a huge trek, literally just out our door we have tons of (amenities) to utilize. A fun place to spend quality time with family is just one of the aspects that makes Mahogany Lake a prized part of the community. As Drew describes, it’s also been a hub for connections with neighbours. It is a big community, but when you’re there, it feels like a small town, because you always seem to run into someone you know, he adds. Our street has a Facebook group that everyone chats on, we have block parties, people arrange to meet at the lake, or do a walking night.
