Eau Claire downtown native Calgarians are confused about the name of the island park just north of downtown. It isn't Prince Albert Park or Princess Island Park; it is named after the man who created the island in the first place, Peter Prince. When he was part of the Eau Claire and Bow River Lumber Company, which operated in this area for decades, he cut the channel which changed this area from a peninsula into an island. .
