The green space, more or less in the centre of Cochrane, has had many roles over the years. It started off as headquarters of the Cochrane Ranche, a gigantic ranch in 1881. When a train station was built here, urban settlement took off. The Visitor Centre used to be located here, but it is now somewhere downtown. Currently, there is a museum on the site, and the site is used for Cochrane's many outdoor events and celebrations. On our recent visit, there was an interesting Art Walk Market, and they have a well-known farmer's market here as well. The only down side is the location at the intersection of the 1A highway and Highway 20, aka The Cowboy Trail. When it's busy, the way in and out can cause slowdowns on these highways, and delays for the park's users, but with patience, you will eventually get in and out...
