Chestermere Lake area used to be a cottage country type of settlement and it was the only body of water near Calgary where motor boats were allowed. Which of course it meant it was well used. In the 1970's some people started to buy up the old cottages and began to build regular 2 story houses on the shore. Soon after all the old cottages disappeared and new house were built and now Chestermere Lake is a registered municipality with all the bells and whistles a village hamlet has to have to be a stand alone community. The lake of course is somewhat restricted in use nowadays, but it is surrounded with beautiful residences and the area keeps on growing at a fairly rapid rate. It is still however an afternoon destination for people who would like to be near water or just want to go for a short drive or an ice cream somewher
