Nice is a highly subjective word. However, in a traditional sense, it is a beautiful place to live as its about 45 minutes away from the Rocky Mountains. The city has a modern feel to it, lots of newer buildings and infrastructure. Alberta also has no provincial sales tax so you just pay the federal GST. Most people here are friendly, and Calgary has a fairly good reputations of being welcoming to newcomers. It is getting to be a pricier city though, with average home prices still above $450K. Prices are currently declining though. Transit is below average to most larger cities, typical wait time for buses, even if they are on a main route, is around 15 minutes. Plan for at least 1 hour to get anywhere by transit. The city usually leans slightly right in politics, so for the most part you can expect conservative representation. However, we did elect Nenshi, who is mostly on the right. He does seem to be on the side of business though. He’s in favour of free-markets as seen in his support for mobile business as well as being Uber friendly.
