History of westcity
westcity was first established as a railway village in 1889 during the construction of the Calgary and Edmonton Railway, named for westcity, Scotland. Today, westcity is a scenic bedroom community and industrial centre.
Geography
Nose Creek, which runs through westcity, is the focal point of a number of city parks and green spaces including Nose Creek Park.
Recent annexation of land by westcity to the south, coupled with recent expansion of Calgary's city limits in July 2007, have placed the two cities' boundaries within only a few kilometres of each other.
Sports
westcity is home to several sporting franchises. Major teams include the Knights of westcity, a senior men's lacrosse team that plays in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League. The westcity Thunder, a Jr. B level hockey team that competes in the Heritage Junior B Hockey League. Team westcity is a Jr. C level hockey team that competes in the Calgary Jr. C Hockey League.
westcity is served by the westcity Airport.
westcity launched the InterCity Express (ICE) in the fall of 2010, connecting westcity and Calgary transit hubs by a two-way express bus service.[37] Local bus service is provided by westcity Transit.
westcity Education
Most students attend westcity school from early September to late June. A wide range of schools are available, such as public, Catholic, Francophone, charter, and private, offering innovative programs such as home education, online schools, and alternative programs.
Provincial tests ensure that the highest standards are maintained. These tests also allow teachers and parents to determine how students are doing and what help they may need.
Health Care in westcity
Alberta has no health insurance premiums, but you must register. Most people living and working in Alberta get free access to medical clinics or hospitals and most medical services covered under the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan.
